About Capt. Mike

Unhappy with the quality of spoons available in 1989, Capt. Mike Hakala developed his first spoon for his own use and to sell in his tackle store JB Hakala’s. That spoon is still sold today, the “original gold casting spoon” by Aqua Dream. Capt. Mike discovered that running a successful tackle store was demanding and severally limited his fishing time, so in 1993 Capt. Mike sold the store to become a full time guide and has been guiding ever since. This new line of work proved to be perfect for testing and developing what would soon become “Capt. Mike’s Guide Proven Lures”. From the now famous Weedless Willow Spoons and Flats Candy lures to the Classic Jigs and Straight Runner Spinners Capt. Mike’s Lures had caught on and were selling nationwide. Through the years over 300,000 of Capt. Mike’s spoons were sold as people came to love the quality and slow sinking action.

In 2008 Capt. Mike accepted an offer and sold the lure company. Unfortunately the new company moved production of the lures from the US to Mexico and the quality suffered. The original Capt. Mike’s Lures has since gone out of business but “The” Capt. Mike is back by popular demand with his new company Aqua Dream Living.

Bringing back some of the classic Capt. Mike’s lures along with the new innovative line of ADL, Vengeance, and The live bait series spoons, Capt. Mike has once again proven that quality, innovation and customer service is the key to a successful business.
